It usually starts small

Mold needs moisture. In Spokane that usually means spring snowmelt around basements and crawl spaces, roof leaks after snow and ice, plumbing leaks, and condensation on cold windows in winter. It grows where you can't see.

Know what's growing

Up close, mold is a living colony. These are the three the CDC names as the most common indoors, grown in a lab dish.

CladosporiumDark green to black. Window frames, bathrooms, damp fabric.
A blue-green Penicillium colony
PenicilliumBlue-green and fuzzy. Water-damaged drywall, carpet, insulation.
A dark Aspergillus colony in a dish
AspergillusMany colours. Dust, walls and heating ducts.

You don't need to know which one you have. The CDC says it doesn't matter: whatever the type, remove it and fix the moisture behind it. Mold can show up as spots in many colours.

Three ways we help

Start with an inspection, not a removal quote. Companies that sell removal often inspect for free and earn more when they find a problem. Once you know what you have and where the water comes from, every removal quote is for the same job.

Mold removal

For mold larger than about 10 square feet, or inside walls, ceilings and crawl spaces. The area is sealed off, damaged material removed, the cause fixed.

Two questions, based on EPA and Washington Department of Health guidance.

Under 10 square feet? Usually yes.

Under about 10 square feet on a hard surface you can usually clean it yourself. Larger areas, mold inside walls or ducts, or mold from sewage water need a professional.

Good questions

How much does a mold inspection cost in Spokane?

Most Spokane mold inspections with lab testing cost about $300 to $600. Published local prices we checked in October 2026 start at around $425 for a standard inspection with one indoor air sample, an outdoor comparison sample and lab fees, with each extra sample about $100, so a typical three-sample job is about $525. A visual inspection without lab samples costs less. Always ask whether the lab fee and the written report are included.

Is mold testing worth it?

Mold testing is worth it when you suspect mold you cannot see, after a leak or flood, before buying a house, or to confirm a cleanup worked. If you can already see or smell mold, the Washington State Department of Health says sampling is usually not needed: the priority is finding the moisture and removing the mold.

Can I clean up mold myself?

Yes, if the area is small. The EPA and the Washington State Department of Health both say you can usually clean mold yourself when it covers less than about 10 square feet, roughly a 3 by 3 foot patch. For larger areas, mold from sewage, or mold hidden in walls or ducts, hire a professional. Fix the water source first or the mold comes back.

Are you a mold removal company?

No. Mold Removal Spokane is an independent guide and referral service. We do not remove, inspect or test mold ourselves. When you request a quote, we pass your request to a local professional who serves your area so they can contact you.
